Safi Life co-founder Devon Ogden and co-founder MUKUNDWA Safi met while Devon was working on her university thesis in Rwanda. After Safi shared her incredible story of survival, the two formed a long-lasting and impactful friendship.

Safi endured unspeakable physical and emotional trauma during and after the 1994 genocide against Tutsi, but remained full of hope and passion to help other women in similar situations. After putting herself though undergraduate school, Safi earned her Master's Degree in business administration.

When Devon asked Safi what the women of Rwanda need, Safi said education.

Together, they dreamed up Safi Life and now Safi serves as the County Director, overseeing university scholarships and all operations of the NDASHOBOYE school (meaning “I Am Able”). This trade school teaches vulnerable women the entrepreneurial and trade skills necessary to support themselves and their families.

In Swahili, Safi means "clean and pure." Our amazing namesake inspires us every day to reach across boundaries, seen and unseen, and to truly love, uplift, and empower one another, no matter what.
